By: Sean Meegan

When looking for a restaurant for an evening out, you make want to step out of your comfort zone, and instead of following your normal route. Instead of a sirloin steak or a pizza, why not try something different. What about visiting a Thai restaurant.
Thai food is the national cuisine of Thailand. The food consists of lightly prepared dishes that have aromatic ingredients. Although Thai food is assumed to be spicy, balance, detail & variety has great importance. Five particular tastes are found in Thai food, being sweet, sour, and hot (spicy), salty & bitter (which is optional)
Quality Thai restaurants offer a wide variety of choices, including less spicy food. You can also ask the waiter for a less spicy dish, or even reduce the spices in the dish.
Popular dishes are:
Starters:
Mixed Satay: Mixed chicken & beef satay with peanut sauce dip
Pan Naa Gai: chicken mixed with fresh herbs fixed on toast with sweet chilli dip.
See Klong Muu Nampueng: Pork spare ribs marinated in honey and Thai herbs then char grilled and served with a spicy dip
Yum Gai Salad: Hot & spicy chicken served with tomatoes, onion, cucumber, and flavoured with lime juice, red chillies & fresh coriander.
Main Courses:
Panang Nue: Beef in a rich panang curry cooked in coconut milk with onion, peppers & Thai herbs

Kang Khew Wan Gai:Chicken in Thai green curry cooked with coconut milk, aubergines, red & green peppers
Goong Pwe Wan: Thai sweet & sour King prawns cooked with tomatoes, cucumber, pineapple and peppers.
But remember that good Thai restaurants will have a specials board. Now this is not to be missed! Specials include fresh fish and authentic this dishes.
If you can find a Thai restaurant that has genuine Thai staff, including waiters/waitresses, you will find that they are excellent with customers, offering gentle care and always with pleasant smiles. If they have a genuine Thai chef then, you will definitely be in for top quality food.
Branch out and try Thai food. You wont be disappointed.
