The Importance Of A Good Design For Your Website

By: Kristi Ambrose

Your business Internet site is a major hub of your Internet business enterprise; it is the virtual representation of your company whether your company exists physically in real life or not. Therefore you ultimately want and require this website to feel as professional as possible. In the same way that you wear the "proper" attire to a business meeting or job interview, is the same way your website should look professional as well. When you are doing business virtually, people cannot physically see you like how they could if they were dealing with an offline business. Hence, individuals do evaluate you by your cover. This is where a good design occurs. Envisage if you are operating an offline company. Would you allow your sales people to be dressed in shabby or casual clothes when they are dealing with your customers? By making your employees wear professional clothes or attire, you are telling your customers that you do care about quality. This works simply because first opinions matter. I know its an old cliche, but it is an honest one!

Similarly, the same case is with your site. If your website is put together shabbily and looks like a 5 minute "quick fix", you are literally shouting to your visitors that you are not professional and you do not care for quality. On the other hand, if you have a totally professional looking website layout, you are giving your visitors the perception that you have given meticulous attention to every detail and you care about professionalism. You are organised, focused and you really mean business. See, this is what you do want. You want people to see you as being professional, not only will it make visitors want to stay longer on the site, but there's also a higher percentage that you could make that potential sale you have been waiting for.

Its also a great idea if you decide you want to go all out and be completely 100% professional. By doing this you should also have anything related to your company well designed. From business cards to letterheads to promotional pamphlets, every little bit matters. This is because as you develop your business, these items become the face, so to speak, of your business. People cant physically see you in some instances, but if they see a crisp, professional brochure, or a neatly designed business card, they will know "this guy means business." Once again, think of the "sales person dressed shabbily" analogy, and you will get my point I'm trying to make.
